Memorial Hospital Miramar is Broward’s only hospital to earn this renowned rating
Memorial Hospital Miramar is now the only five-star hospital in Broward County, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
CMS Overall Hospital Quality star ratings highlight facilities that have “exceptional performance in patient safety, outcomes, experience and quality of care,” according to an Oct. 3 news release from South Florida Hospital News and Healthcare Report.
Only three hospitals in South Florida have this designation, and Memorial Hospital Miramar is the only one in Broward.
“Achieving a 5-star rating from CMS is not only a major accomplishment — it’s a testament to the daily dedication and skill of our team,” Memorial Hospital Miramar CEO Stephen Demers said in the release.
The criteria for star ratings are mortality, safety of care, readmissions, timely and effective care and patient experience.
“Delivering high-quality care to everyone who comes through our doors is at the heart of what we do. Receiving this award is a meaningful recognition of the exceptional care we strive to provide our patients, ensuring they feel supported during life’s most challenging times,” Dr. Alvaro Visbal, chief of staff and medical director of Critical Care Medicine at the hospital, said in the release.
This is not Memorial Hospital’s first honor this year. It also received its fourth ‘A’ hospital safety grade from Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog organization that uses data to make hospital safety and quality ratings.
Newsweek and Statista, a global data platform, ranked Memorial Hospital Miramar as one of the best hospitals in the U.S. this year, with a 64.07% out of 100%.
In April, the hospital broke ground on a new freestanding emergency department that is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
