Internationally renowned visual artist Andy Ballentine is being recognized for his significant impact across South Florida.

Ballentine grew up in St. Catherine, Jamaica, and much of his art is inspired by his homeland. His most recognizable work is of fruits, vegetables, landscapes and portraits.

On Friday, April 10, Miramar Commissioner Maxwell Chambers and Jamaica Financial Investigation Division Chief Technical Officer Dennis Chung will honor the painter at City Hall.

You can watch him receive this honor by reserving your spot on Eventbrite for free.

Over the years, Ballentine has presented his work at group and solo exhibitions across South Florida. In 2024, Miramar’s Ansin Art Gallery presented a Ballentine exhibit titled “Timeless Passion.” He also painted a portrait of Chambers for his swearing-in ceremony.

Since Ballentine’s first exhibition in Jamaica in 2003, he has presented his works from South Florida to Switzerland. He has also worked with Caribbean musical artists such as Luciano and Kimani Marley.

“Art has always been more than just a passion for me — it’s a way to bring joy, light, and healing to the world around me,” he wrote in a 2024 blog post.

“From my early exhibitions in Kingston, Jamaica, to receiving the Excellence Award at the Humanity Art Exhibition in Hollywood, Florida, each step has been a testament to the power of art in shaping our lives.”

Some of his memorable experiences include live painting performances and showcasing work at this year’s New York Fashion Week.

Though he represents South Florida, Ballentine will be honored for his impact among Jamaicans, including the many who live in Miramar.
