Celebrate Hanukkah in Miramar with the first giant menorah lighting at City Hall
Miramar is offering a lively Hanukkah celebration a few days into the holiday week.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at City Hall, the city will light a giant menorah in honor of the festival of lights.
This year, Hanukkah began at sundown on Sunday, Dec. 14, and will conclude at nightfall on Monday, Dec. 22. The menorah likely will have four candles lit for the ceremony.
The Joyful Chanukah Celebration will include more than just a menorah.
In partnership with Chabad of Pembroke Pines and the Goldstein Environmental Law Firm, the city is offering traditional Hanukkah food, face painting, snow cones, popcorn and dreidel giveaways, according to the Eventbrite page.
This is part of a series of Hanukkah events the Chabad of Pembroke Pines is hosting, and according to its Instagram page, the first time this event has been hosted in Miramar.
The annual Hanukkah car parade took place on Dec. 14, followed by a menorah lighting at Pembroke Pines City Hall.
On Dec. 21, there will be another menorah lighting at Pembroke Gardens.
Expressing the importance of the celebration, a Chabad representative said in an Instagram video, “Some people went to the Jewish community and told them, ‘Quiet down, keep a low profile.’ ... We don’t cower, we don’t back down, but we act,” he said.
“We’re lighting the menorah for the very first time at Miramar City Hall. Come, join with us. Let’s be beacons of light.”
