February is a month full of celebration, with a Reggae Month takeover happening in Miramar alongside Black History Month events.

Celebrate your favorite reggae artists and discover new ones at a free music festival, awards show or party with Jamaican DJs.

Reggae Month was first celebrated in 2008 by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association.

Join the City of Miramar for these Reggae Month events in February:

Selecta Showdown — Feb. 27

Inside of Reggae Month is Dancehall Week, and every year Miramar highlights the “selecta” or the dancehall DJs at Shirley Branca Park. From 7 to 11 p.m., three women DJs will compete for the title of best DJ and a $1,000 prize. Competing this year are DJ Lady Terra, DJ Rere and DJ Shawty Redz, with Supa Twitch as the MC. Miramar will also honor Jamaican artist Wayne Wonder with the Dancehall Icon Award. Register at MiramarSelectaShowdown26.eventbrite.com.

Praise on the Green Gospel Extravaganza — Feb. 27

This free faith-based event will take place on the City Hall lawn. Gospel reggae artists will bring joyful, “soul-lifting” music to Miramar from 7 to 10 p.m. As the artists sing faith-filled songs, attendees are encouraged to sing and shout along.

Afro-Carib Festival — Feb. 28

Miramar has announced the lineup for this free music festival that celebrates both Black History Month and Reggae Month. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show goes from 6 to 11 p.m., featuring Steel Pulse, Shuga and Naomi Cowan. The Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater will host even more artists that night. While general admission is free, parking is paid and advance parking is $12.50. Register to enter at AfroCaribFestMiramar.com.
