The Journey to Kingston concert at the Miramar Cultural Center is becoming a reunion of reggae artists thanks to headliner Spragga Benz.

At a press event on Tuesday, April 21, the dancehall artist announced several special guests who will also perform at the May 30 concert.

Commissioner Maxwell Chambers, who is hosting, said he anticipates the show — tickets cost $80-$90 — selling out.

Guests include Don Yute, Everton Blender, Ky-Mani Marley and Big D leading the Florida Memorial University Orchestra, who all attended the press event with Benz.

The main artists performing are Benz, Wayne Wonder and Agent Sasco (Assassin). The show will also feature dancehall DJs such as Supa Twitch, who has been featured in past Miramar events.

Said Agent Sasco: “I owe so much to [Benz]. ... He doesn’t see it that way.”

Benz is one of the artists who helped shape modern dancehall, with tracks such as “Work Fi This,” “She Nuh Ready Yet,” “We Nuh Like” and “Dolly House.”

“Kingston [has] a whole lot to offer,” he said. “[I’m] friends with everybody in the business,” he continued, referring to the positive relationships he has with each artist in the lineup.

Marley is a Grammy-nominated artist and one of Bob Marley’s children. He said he met Benz on the set of “Shottas,” a 2002 movie they both starred in.

Their most recent single together is called “Holy Life.”

“I’ve always been a fan of Spragga Benz,” he said.

Blender brings a spiritual tone to the event with his music, often packed with messages about world issues and love.

Don Yute expressed his excitement for the upcoming event: “It’s like a souveneir, because you [will] always remember it.”

His dancehall records include ”Sensi Ride,” a collaboration with Journey to Kingston performer Wonder.

Event hosts said more artists, such as Pressure Buss Pipe, Stephen Marley and Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, will take the stage on May 30.

Ticket sales will go toward the ongoing efforts in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa.

“Some people still have nothing,” Benz said.
