Ready to get involved in activities this week in Miramar?

Tickets for two pilates classes are on sale and the Miramar Run Club is back with its Set the Pace run.

Join the writer’s club at Miramar Branch Library or take your kid there for storytime.

Here are some events happening in Miramar from Monday, May 4, through Thursday, May 7:

Monday

Writer’s Club — 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

On the first and third Monday of the month, the Writer’s Club meets at Miramar Branch Library. Read, listen and discuss the written word with other adults who love to write.

Set the Pace — 6:45 p.m.

If you’re new to running, join this group from the Miramar Run Club. Set the Pace welcomes all speeds, including walking. The group meets at City Hall and starts running at 7 p.m. for 30 minutes.

Tuesday

Funding Close to Home — 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Miramar is reaching out to professionals in the nonprofit world. Program managers, grant professionals, board members and nonprofit executive directors are invited to the Miramar Cultural Center banquet hall. Learn how to identify, pursue and successfully apply for Broward County grant funding with Vice Mayor Carson “Eddy” Edwards. Networking will take place before the event at 7:30 a.m.

Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime! — 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Get ready for preschool with games and activities that are geared toward social and learning skills. At the Miramar Branch Library, enjoy storytime that goes beyond reading.

Mat Pilates — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Haus of Align’s weekly mat pilates class is held at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center for $24 per person. Join this supportive class that focuses on intentional movement, breathing and strength.

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This Zumba class is free for Miramar residents, instructed by Gabriela Jurado. The group meets outdoors at City Hall Plaza to dance and exercise to Latin music. Bring water and get ready to sweat.

Weekly Live Trivia Nights at World of Beer — 7 p.m.

Challenge Entertainment hosts this free weekly trivia show at World of Beer on Red Road. Sign up for the National Trivia League with your team to compete for the title and prizes.

Wednesday

Wednesday Night Chess — 7 to 10 p.m.

The Miramar Chess Club welcomes all to its weekly meetup at the Starbucks on Red Road. Whether you’re a chess expert or new to the game, bring your chess set and start playing.

Commission Meeting — 7 p.m.

Commission meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Here, the commission hears from residents, passes resolutions and introduces legislation. Stay informed or give your input at the City Hall commission chambers, or watch online at miramarfl.gov.

Thursday

Line Dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.

Get moving with Jammin Jamei at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center. She’ll teach line dances to popular songs for two hours, leading the fun and helping you work up a sweat.

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Another energetic Zumba workout is offered at Sunset Lakes Community Center for free. Follow along with the group’s dance moves and make sure to bring water for this lively exercise.

Pilates In The Park — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Haus of Align’s second class of the week takes place at Miramar Regional Park. Pilates movements are focused and intentional, helping you build strength. Join the class for $24.

MOMS of Miramar Poured Into — 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Commissioner Avril Cherasard is hosting an event to honor and bring moms together for Mother’s Day. The night features spiritual, community and wellness-themed fireside chats, and aims to honor mothers of Miramar by pouring into them. This free event takes place at the Miramar Cultural Center banquet hall.

Cocktails & Classy Connections — 7 p.m.

TPN Community Miramar is hosting its May signature networking event at Dress2envii. The owner will make a special presentation at this curated social. Spots are limited to keep the interactions intentional and less crowded. Tickets are $5, and the event is geared toward women and mothers.

Open Mic Night — 8 to 11:30 p.m.

Every Thursday night, Miramar Seafood and Steak serves up food and entertainment. For its Open Mic Night, the eatery seeks singers, musicians, dancers, actors and other performers.
