Networking events, commission meeting, chess club highlight this week in Miramar

Get to know Miramar and its people at events this week, including two networking opportunities at Sushi Sake.

The Miramar Run Club starts its all-levels run on June 1, and weekly trivia happens every Tuesday at World of Beer.

Wednesday night chess also returns from the Miramar Chess Club.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Monday, June 1, through Thursday, June 4:

Monday

Set the Pace — 6:45 p.m.

The Miramar Run Club is back with its all-levels run. Whether you’re walking, jogging or running, you can join for free. The group meets at City Hall plaza, starts at 7 p.m. and runs for 30 minutes.

Tuesday

Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime — 10:30 to 11 a.m.

If it’s time for your little one to go to preschool, help them get ready at Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime. It is held at the Miramar Branch Library, and staff will answer questions and guide kids through games and stories meant to help with their learning and social skills.

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30

Zumba with Gaby Zumba Fit is a fun way to exercise outdoors at City Hall plaza. The dance moves are easy to follow and help you work up a sweat. Make sure to bring water.

Mat Pilates — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Haus of Align meets at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center every Tuesday for a Pilates class where you bring your own mat. Pilates on a mat focuses on strength and intentional movement that aligns with breathing. Join for $24 per class.

Weekly Live Trivia Night at World of Beer — 7 p.m.

World of Beer wants to help you take your trivia game to the next level. Gather your team and sign up with Challenge Entertainment to compete every Tuesday.

Wednesday

Commission Meeting — 7 p.m.

Usually held on the first and third Wednesday of the month, commission meetings are where the city’s leaders meet to hear from the public and make important decisions. Legislative actions are taken and you can give public comment if you attend at City Hall’s commission chambers.

Wednesday’s Night Chess — 7 to 10 p.m.

The Miramar Chess Club invites you to an evening of strategy and fun. Bring your own chess set to the Starbucks on Red Road and sharpen your skills. All levels are welcome.

Thursday

Lunch & Leverage: A Curated Midday Networking Experience — Noon to 1:30 p.m.

Sushi Sake is hosting a midday networking event where you can meet other professionals over lunch. Hosted by speaker Jennifer Lee Marcus, this curated experience is meant to foster conversation between women in business. Tickets start at $7.

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Instructor Gabriela Jurado and Mayor Wayne M. Messam invite all to this free Zumba class at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Follow along with the dance moves in this high-energy workout, and make sure to bring water. This activity requires a release form from the city.

Pilates In The Park — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Bring your own mat to this Pilates exercise class at Miramar Regional Park. If you want to learn intentional Pilates movements focused on building strength, this class may be for you. Tickets start at $24, and attendees bring their own mats.

Creative Connections - A TPN Miramar Experience — 7 to 8:30 p.m.

TPN Miramar curates networking experiences, this one at Sushi Sake. Expect meaningful conversations with professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives and community leaders. Tickets are $7 to enjoy a curated experience and professional visibility, plus a guest speaker.

Open Mic Night — 8 to 11:30 p.m.

Miramar Seafood and Steak’s open mic night features singers, actors, dancers, musicians and other performers. Get on stage yourself by signing up or enjoy the food while you support local performers.
