This week in Miramar: Fitness classes, family movies, July 4 crafts & more

It’s a calm week in Miramar as we head into Independence Day, with weekly free events still on offer and other recurring classes around the city.

Family movies will be shown at the library, and it is also offering a free craft session to celebrate July 4.

Free Zumba classes and a run with the Miramar Run Club are available every week, plus two Pilates classes that come with a fee.

Here are some events happening this week in Miramar from June 29 to July 2:

Monday

Set the pace — 6:45 p.m.

The Miramar Run Club has a free run every Monday that welcomes all. You can walk, jog or run with pacers starting at 7 p.m. for 30 minutes. Meet the club at City Hall plaza.

Tuesday

Family movies hosted by Miramar Branch Library — 2 to 4 p.m.

Bring the family to watch a movie at the library that’s appropriate for everyone. The Miramar Branch Library encourages you to stay out of the sun, bring your blanket and popcorn inside and enjoy a film every Tuesday. Call 954-357-8180 to inquire about the movie selection.

Zumba on the plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Looking for a fun way to exercise? This class with Gaby Zumba Fit takes place at City Hall plaza outdoors. Follow along to Latin dance moves with this high energy group.

Mat Pilates — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Build strength with Haus of Align at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center. This exercise class focuses on Pilates movements that prioritize alignment, control and breath. The moves will be modified for all levels, and each attendee brings their own mat. Tickets are $24.

Weekly trivia night at World of Beer — 7 p.m.

Gather your team and head to World of Beer in Miramar for a night of trivia fun. Challenge Entertainment hosts every Tuesday, where anyone can officially register to compete for free and win prizes.

Wednesday

Independence Day celebration craft — 1 to 2 p.m.

Kids age 5 and up are invited to make free crafts in honor of Independence Day. Head to the multipurpose room at the Miramar Branch Library to make celebratory art.

Thursday

Line dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.

If you’ve never been able to follow along with line dances, now’s your chance to learn. Jammin Jamei teaches line dances to well-known songs at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center. This free two-hour class provides exercise and fun at the same time.

Zumba hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Free Zumba is back at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Get ready to dance along with instructor Gabriela Jurado. Upbeat music and easy-to-follow moves make this class fun for all.

Pilates in the park — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Learn a more intentional way of moving with this Pilates class at Miramar Regional Park. Tickets are $24 and attendees bring their own mat and water. Expect a full-body Pilates flow that focuses on strength, alignment and breath.

Open mic night — 8 to 11:30 p.m.

Get ready to take the stage or sit to enjoy a show at Miramar Seafood & Steak. Every Thursday, the restaurant seeks singers, dancers, actors, musicians and other performers. Open Mic Night entry is free.
