In the more than 25 years that his dad has owned the Kwik Stop on Miramar Parkway and University Drive, Jawad Abdellatif has seen multiple restaurant tenants come and go.

Now he has opened his own eatery in their place: Blaz’n Chicken.

“I always had this picture of opening my own spot,” Abdellatif told the Miramar News. “My goal is to have my own location one day.”

He serves Nashville-style hot chicken, a popular fried chicken recipe seen at chains such as Dave’s Hot Chicken.

The chicken is fried in hot oil and spices, and Blaz’n Chicken offers four spice levels; Original to Blaz’n, in case customers aren’t ready for the heat.

Abdellatif opened at Kwik Stop in April, and he offers delivery through Uber Eats.

“And ever since, we’ve gotten, little by little ... a little customer base. It’s been growing,” he said. “We have a good neighborhood right behind us, a good community.”

Abdellatif recommends starting with the classic crispy sandwich, which is not spicy, or increasing the heat with the hot honey version, his most popular.

He also recommends the Blaz’n Bomb, his version of loaded fries covered in sauce and cheese.

Beyond the staples, Blaz’n Chicken offers tenders and wings.

Abdellatif enjoys serving the Miramar community after being involved in his father’s business for so long.

“I know everybody here as if they were my own family,” he said.

Blaz’n Chicken is open Monday through Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m.
