Avelo is launching flights from Florida to Dallas. See which airports

Avelo Airlines is launching nonstop flights to Texas from four Florida airports in November.

The company announced June 30 that the first flights to North Dallas McKinney National Airport (code DTX) from Florida will take off Nov. 11-19, with service up to five times a week from certain Florida airports.

Introductory one-way fares will start at $99, and bookings made through July will include the first checked bag free, the airline said.

Which airports will serve the new McKinney route?

Unfortunately for Polk County travelers, Lakeland is not among the Avelo airports serving North Dallas. It's the only route Avelo flies from Florida that does not include Lakeland Linder International Airport.

Here are the airports from which Avelo will fly to McKinney:

  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Int'l Airport (FLL): Flights begin Nov. 19, five times a week, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Fort Myers Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW): Flights begin Nov. 11, twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO): Flights begin Nov. 12, five times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA): Flights begin Nov. 19, four times a week, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Where does Avelo fly from Lakeland

Last week, Avelo announced a new route from Lakeland Linder to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, will start Nov. 18. Service will be offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with ticket prices starting at $70 one-way for Avelo plus members, $100 standard pricing.

Here's Avelo's other destinations from Lakeland:

  • Atlanta (ATL): Avelo currently flies to Atlanta two days a week, mainly Sunday and Thursday, except for a few weeks. That doesn't change through the end of February.
  • Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina (USA): Avelo currently flies four times a week, Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. That changes to two days a week from September through February.
  • Detroit (DTW): These flights aren't offered from Lakeland until November, when Avelo plans to fly up to four days a week through December, then two or three days a week in January and two days a week through the end of February.
  • Grand Rapids, Michigan (GRR): This route also isn't offered until November, and it'll fly two days a week through March 1.
  • Nashville (BNA): This route is offered two days a week through the end of February, except only one flight remains for January.
  • New Haven, Connecticut (HVN): This route is offered four days a week, through mid-August, then flight frequency scales back. Flights are offered two days a week from September through March 1, except for an extra day available the week of Christmas.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delware (ILG): This flight's offered two days a week consistently through the end of February.
  • Rochester, New York (ROC): This flight's offered two days a week through January, then picks up to four days a week through March 1.
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU): This flight is four days a week and will remain so through mid-August, then switching to two days a week, Monday and Friday, through mid-November. Then in goes back to four days a week through mid-January, and two days a week from Jan. 11 to March 1.

Avelo flights from Orlando

Besides the new route to North Dallas McKinney, Avelo flies to two other destinations from Orlando.

  • New Haven, Connecticut (HVN): Avelo flies six or seven days a week from Orlando to New Haven through March 2.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delware (ILG): This route is offered four or five days a week through mid-November, then six or seven days a week through the first week of January. For the rest of January through March 1, flights are back to five days a week.

Flights from Tampa

Besides the new McKinney route, Avelo flies to three other destinations from Tampa.

  • New Haven, Connecticut (HVN): This route is offered six days a week through December (seven days the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas). From Jan. 1 through March 1, it's five or six days a week.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delware (ILG): Four days a week through October, then five or six days a week through March 1.
  • Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM): This route is offered two days a week through Nov. 15.

Avelo flights from Daytona Beach

  • New Haven, Connecticut (HVN): Two flights a week through August. No flights are available September or October, but they resume on Nov. 19 and run two days a week through February.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delware (ILG): This route begins Nov. 19 and runs two days a week through March 1.

Flights from Sarasota

  • New Haven, Connecticut (HVN): This route is offered two days a week through Nov. 13, then increases to four to seven days through the end of December, and four to five days through March 1.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delware (ILG): These flights start Nov. 19 and run two or three days a week through the end of February.

From Fort Myers

  • New Haven, Connecticut (HVN): Four days a week through September, then five to seven days a week through March 2.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delware (ILG): Four days a week through August, then two or three days per week in September. After that, it fluctuates, but is generally four to six days a week through March.

From Fort Lauderdale

Besides the new route to McKinney, Avelo flies to two other destinations from Fort Lauderdale.

  • New Haven, Connecticut: Six days a week through March 1.
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delaware: Two to four days a week through March 1.

Other Florida markets

  • Jacksonville (JAX): Avelo flies from Jacksonville to New Haven two days a week through Nov. 16. No flights are listed beyond that date.
  • Key West (EYW): Beginning Nov. 16, Avelo will fly two days a week from Key West to New Haven.

Avelo fares

Avelo Airlines says its fares start at $39, but it depends heavily on the destination and date. For instance, some one-way flights from Lakeland to Charlotte in August were $39, and others were as high as $89. One-way flights from Lakeland to San Juan for the same months ranged from $108 to $155. June flights to San Juan went as high as $261.

Avelo allows one personal item, about the size of a large purse, computer bag or small duffel bag. It charges extra for carry-on bags or checked luggage.
