Ponte Vedra Beach cottage of former Equifax CEO goes for $13 million
A Ponte Vedra Beach home with ties to both the worlds of financial data analytics and professional baseball sold for $13 million on June 15, making it one of the top sales of 2026 so far.
The three-bedroom, four-bath brick cottage at 133 Ponte Vedra Blvd. was owned by Thomas F. Chapman, the former CEO and chairman of Equifax, one of the "Big Three" credit reporting agencies in the country. The sale was first reported in a June 23 story in the Jacksonville Daily Record, which reported that Chapman graduated from Clemson University in South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and was a standout pitcher for the Clemson Tigers, scoring two nods to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference.
Citing information taken from the Clemson website, the story also noted that Chapman played professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he was drafted into the team's minor league system. He played for two years with the Miami Marlins, Tidewater Tides and Spartanburg Phillies before his Army Reserve Unit was activated and deployed to Vietnam, where he reportedly served with distinction.
Built in 1964, the 2,853-square-foot home was gutted down to the studs by the previous owner for a top-to-bottom renovation starting in 2004. After the Chapmans purchased the home for $6,250,000 in 2019, additional updates included a new roof, HVAC units and all lighting systems.
The list of features noted on Zillow.com describe the perfect beach getaway. A covered oceanfront lanai spanning the width of the home includes a wood-burning fireplace with a gas starter ― one of three in the home, with the others found in the living room and the primary suite.
The coastal cottage vibe is continued with plank wood floors, vaulted wood and beamed ceilings, as well as tongue and groove crisp white wood walls throughout the home. The kitchen is outfitted with high-end appliances by Sub-Zero and Wolf, along with a walk-in pantry and work space.
Plantation shutters on most windows help complete the look.
Among the bedrooms are a primary suite with sitting area, fireplace and spa-like bath that offers generous custom cabinetry highlighted by beadboard doors and shallow drawers, also found in the walk-in closet. One guest room has its own ensuite bath, while the other features a built-in work station and wardrobe.
In addition, the laundry room has a new washer and dryer, lots of storage and a full beach bathroom accessible from the outside.
Chapman retired from Equifax in 2005 after leading the company for six years. According to a story in the St. Johns Citizen, Chapman and his wife, Karen, are longtime residents of the Atlanta area, where they are well-known for their philanthropy there and at Clemson.
Chapman was named Georgia Philanthropist of the Year in 2014.
