Saks to close Miramar facility amid bankruptcy, lay off workers. What to know
Saks Global is closing its Miramar Park of Commerce facility and laying off 74 workers. The company’s associate general counsel sent a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice (WARN) to the Florida Department of Commerce and Mayor Wayne M. Messam on Jan. 23, detailing the closing.
The retail giant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Jan. 13.
The notice says that “Saks & Company LLC will be conducting layoffs as a result of the closure of its facility located at 2784 Executive Way, Miramar FL 33025.”
This affects all employees and the closure is expected to be permanent.
“All of the affected employees are expected to be separated between March 27, 2026, and April 30, 2026,” the notice reads.
Saks Global owns Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. The Miramar facility worked in back-of-house operations.
In March and April, the company will let go 23 tailors, 13 warehouse associates, eight office specialists, and various warehouse and equipment coordinators.
“Saks Global made the strategic decision to close operations at the Southeast Service Center and shift current capabilities to our stores and alternate Saks Global fulfillment centers, which are well-equipped to manage this additional work. We are grateful to our colleagues for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition,” a Saks Global spokesperson said in a statement to South Florida Business Journal.
The workers being laid off are not represented by a union, the letter says, and they don’t have bumping rights that displace lower-level employees in order to keep their jobs.
Miramar Park of Commerce is a large, locally owned business park that houses companies such as Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein.
