Miramar mayor strikes optimistic tone for 2026 in New Year’s message to residents
Miramar Mayor Wayne M. Messam welcomed residents to 2026 with a New Year’s message centered on unity, gratitude and continued progress, outlining broad priorities for the city in the year ahead.
In the message, emailed to residents along with a photo of himself and his wife, Angela, Messam reflected on what he called a year of “meaningful accomplishments” in 2025.
He pointed to investments in neighborhoods and infrastructure, improvements in public safety, expanded community programs and the city’s continued embrace of cultural diversity as key markers of progress.
Messam framed 2026 as one of continued momentum, describing Miramar as a community rooted in “resilience, innovation, and unity.”
He credited residents, businesses and community partners for those efforts, emphasizing collaboration as a defining feature of Miramar’s success.
Looking ahead, the mayor said the city will remain focused on “building opportunity” and enhancing quality of life while laying the groundwork for future generations.
After being off since November, the Miramar commission is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
Here’s the mayor’s message:
Dear Miramar Family,
Happy New Year and welcome to 2026!
As we step into a new year together, I want to take a moment to reflect with gratitude and optimism. 2025 was a year of meaningful accomplishments for our city — from continued investment in our neighborhoods and infrastructure, to strengthening public safety, expanding community programs, and celebrating the diversity that makes Miramar special.
These achievements were only possible because of you — our residents, families, businesses, educators, faith leaders, and community partners — working together with a shared vision for excellence.
Looking ahead, 2026 is just as promising. We remain focused on building opportunity, enhancing quality of life, and continuing to lay a strong foundation for future generations. Miramar is more than a city — it is a community rooted in resilience, innovation, and unity.
We are truly blessed to call Miramar home, and together, we will continue to move our city forward. On behalf of my family and city leadership, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
With gratitude and determination,
Wayne M. Messam, Mayor, City of Miramar
