Miramar’s Haitian beauty pageant crowns a winner. Meet the 2025 titleholder
Miss Choucoune International, the local Haitian beauty pageant, crowned its second winner on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Dawoonah Pierre, representing Haiti’s Artibonite Parish, won the title after competing against nine other contestants at the Miramar Cultural Center.
Her evening wear, swimsuit, cultural outfit and personality earned her a $5,000 prize. Pierre will take over the duties of Miss Choucoune from Angélique François, the 2024 winner.
Pierre is a model and runs a financial education foundation called Nou Bèl, according to her Instagram. She and the rest of the Miss Choucoune 2025 class participated in training and volunteer events together before the competition.
In a video by event videographer Angelo Lumas after her win, Pierre said, “I’m so happy, I am so proud of myself. Thank you to the team, thank you to Miss Sandra, to Delpha, to Lulu, to everyone. I’m so happy. Thank you so much.”
Sandra Justice is the founder of Miss Chocoune International, Delpha Samuels was the pageant coach, and Lulu Orange was the pageant production consultant.
According to Justice, Miss Choucoune will produce a photoshoot for Pierre’s forthcoming billboard on I-95.
“I truly believe the biggest change I’d like to see for women right now is empowerment,” Pierre told judges on stage.
