A house fire in Miramar the day before Halloween has displaced a family and rendered the home uninhabitable, according to the fire department.

A neighbor across the street on the 2000 block of Arcadia Drive called in a report of the home burning shortly before 8 p.m. on Oct. 30, Public Information Officer Tara Smith told the Miramar News on Nov. 3.

Crews were dispatched to the area and extinguished the flames within about 30 minutes of the first call, Smith said. FPL restored electricity to the area not long after.

The family, consisting of a couple and their children, was out at the time, so no injuries to people or pets were reported, Smith said.

The American Red Cross is working with the family to get them back on their feet.

The fire department is investigating the cause of the flames, but no gas or flammable liquids were believed to have sparked it, Smith said.

Though witnesses reported hearing an explosion, the sound could have been caused by any number of things, from a falling beam to a transformer blowing, according to the department.
