Two hospitals in the Memorial Healthcare System received A ratings in safety from the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog organization.

Memorial Hospital Miramar and Memorial Hospital Pembroke each earned an A in Hospital Safety Grades from the group, highlighting each hospital’s high standards based on 30 national performance measures, according to a Nov. 14 news release from the South Florida Hospital News and Healthcare Report.

The results are peer-reviewed and result in scores A through F.

Leapfrog Group has a grading period in the spring and fall, and both hospitals also received an A rating in the spring.

For each part they’re graded on, hospitals can either achieve the standard, have considerable achievement, some achievement, limited achievement or they declined to respond for that particular benchmark.

Memorial Hospital Miramar excelled at nursing care, health care equity, preventing errors and safe medication administration, among other categories.

The hospital had limited achievement in surgical site infection after colon surgery, with more infections than expected, and C-sections, with a rate of 38.1%.

“We applaud Memorial Hospital Miramar and Memorial Hospital Pembroke for putting patients first and delivering the highest standard of care,” Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group, said in the release.

Memorial Hospital Pembroke met the standard for having a high proportion of highly trained and skilled registered nurses (RNs) who have advanced nursing degrees. It also effectively had leadership and staff work together to prevent errors, executed handwashing and had lower C.diff infections, among other categories.

They had some achievement in informed consent, and higher numbers of infections in the blood and urinary tract.

“Earning an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group for the second time in 2025 is a proud moment for our team and a clear reflection of our commitment to patient safety,” Felicia Turnley, chief executive officer of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, said in the release.
