Miramar lands Grammy-winning rapper Killer Mike as guest speaker for entrepreneurs group
Miramar is bringing a Grammy Award-winning voice in music, business and activism to speak to the city’s entrepreneurial community.
Atlanta-based rapper and entrepreneur Killer Mike will appear on Friday, Jan. 2 as a guest speaker at the season finale of Miramar’s First Fridays: Network & Chill entrepreneur social series .
The free event is part of the city’s ongoing effort to connect local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with influential leaders from outside South Florida, an idea championed by Mayor Wayne M. Messam.
Michael Render, known by the stage name Killer Mike, first gained wide recognition in the early 2000s with a feature on Outkast’s “Stankonia” album and later became known as one-half of the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels. He has released several acclaimed solo albums, and in 2024 won three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album.
Beyond music, he has built a reputation as a business owner, political activist and advocate for economic empowerment, particularly in Black and underserved communities.
City leaders have said the Network & Chill program is intended to inspire local young entrepreneurs between the ages of 21 and 40 and spark conversation about innovation, ownership and community-based economic growth. These events are for “the next generation of entrepreneurs, side hustlers and creatives,” the event flyer says.
In recent months, Killer Mike has continued to expand his public profile outside the music industry. He recently joined FIFA in promoting the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Hard Rock Stadium near Miarmar is set to be a host stadium.
His involvement with FIFA, city officials said, underscores his growing influence in culture, business and international branding — areas that align with Miramar’s push to foster forward-thinking entrepreneurship.
Past Network & Chill sessions have focused on topics ranging from startup financing to marketing and leadership, with an emphasis on collaboration rather than competition.
Killer Mike’s appearance is being billed “a block party” at the City of Miramar Town Center Plaza. It will include a discussion about Killer Mike’s journey from independent artist to the face of a global brand, a Q&A session, as well as lessons learned from launching and sustaining businesses outside the music industry, including a clothing line and canned cocktails.
The event is Jan. 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 2300 Civic Center Place.
The event is free but requires an RSVP to miramarfirstfridays.eventbrite.com.
