Residents of Miramar no longer need to travel far to apply for a U.S. passport, the city announced in a news release.

City Hall is now providing U.S. Passport Book and Passport Card services, making international and regional travel preparations easier for residents.

Whether for a vacation, cruise, business trip or other travel, Miramar residents can take advantage of this service at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 2300 Civic Center Place. Trained staff will guide applicants through the process.

“Residents don’t have to travel far for passport services,” City Clerk Denise Gibbs said in the statement. “We are proud to offer this important service directly at City Hall, providing convenience, expert guidance and the opportunity for residents to choose the passport option that best fits their travel needs.”

Here are the differences between a passport book and a passport card:

U.S. Passport Book

  • Valid for international travel by air, sea or land
  • Valid for 10 years for adults and five years for children under 16

U.S. Passport Card

  • Valid for land and sea travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda
  • Not valid for international air travel
  • Wallet-sized, same size as a credit card
  • Valid for 10 years for adults and five years for children under 16
  • Can be used in designated “Ready Lanes” for faster land border crossings

Both are REAL ID-compliant, meaning they are approved forms of identification for domestic flights.
