Jamaica Diaspora Conference kicks off in Miramar, then heads to Jamaica in June
A large portion of the Jamaican diaspora live in South Florida, making it a prime spot to promote the Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference.
This year’s conference will take place in June in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but a kickoff event is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, at Miramar City Hall.
Consul General Oliver Mair will host the preview, and Hon. Alando Terrelonge, minister of state, will deliver a keynote address.
“The last [conference] was empowering, enabling and entertaining. Full of vibes. Networking at its best,” Mair told the Miramar News on March 19.
“This event is tailor-made for Jamaicans and persons of Jamaican descent: entrepreneurs, business professionals, investment interests, philanthropists, community interests and leaders interested in networking, fostering stronger ties and exploring new opportunities facilitated by the staging of the conference in June,” the Eventbrite page reads.
If you are interested but cannot attend in person, the event is hybrid. The Zoom link is available on Eventbrite.
The conference in Montego Bay is being held in-person for the first time in five years. The event site promises a gathering that ”beckons Jamaicans from [around] the globe to a significant and poignant homecoming.”
Over its three days, there will be special events, excursions, a diaspora marketplace and a keynote speech from the prime minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness.
