The National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica performance scheduled for Friday, April 10, at the Miramar Cultural Center has been canceled.

Commissioner Carson “Eddy” Edwards sent a news release Monday, March 23, confirming the cancellation.

“We, as a city, were very excited to present this authentic presentation of artistry direct from Jamaica,” he wrote.

“However due to challenges met from the visas acquisition timeline, the show will not proceed at this time.”

The group was set to perform the two-hour show “Rise: Rituals of Home, Heritage & Thanksgiving.”

“We are making every attempt to secure a future date to present the critically acclaimed NDTC,” Edwards said.

NDTC Jamaica is known for its fusion of modern dance, classical technique and traditional Afro-Caribbean folk forms. “Rise” featured eight works.

Those with tickets will be refunded by the Miramar Cultural Center box office.

An event is listed on NDTC Jamaica’s website for Saturday, April 11, at the Dennis E. Moss Cultural Arts Center in Miami. However, the performance isn’t listed on the art center’s website as of March 23.
