The Miramar City Commission selects a vice mayor every year from the sitting members, and this year, it’s Carson “Eddy” Edwards.

At the commission meeting Wednesday, April 1, members voted to select Edwards for the position.

He will replace Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne, who was chosen in April 2025.

“I am just truly grateful for the appointment from the colleagues on the dais one year into sitting there. I look forward to serving beside the mayor, and continuing to advance the work that we do to keep Miramar thriving,” Edwards told the Miramar News.

Mayor Wayne M. Messam and the other commissioners, Avril Cherasard and Maxwell Chambers, voted for Edwards. He was nominated by Colbourne.

“Since day one ... [Colbourne] has really been one of the persons that has guided me throughout the process of being a new commissioner,” Edwards said. “And even sometimes keeping me on the straight and narrow.”

He called this commission “one of the most harmonious.”

Edwards has been a member of the commission since March 2025, and is known as a successful entrepreneur from Kingston, Jamaica.

He has worked in media and marketing for over 30 years, and is the CEO of the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival, held annually at Miramar Regional Park.

According to city code, the vice mayor serves a one-year term, and the commission will vote again in April 2027.

The vice mayor acts as the mayor’s second in command, representing the city at community events and presiding over meetings when the mayor is absent.

“I’m going to miss that vice mayor title, let me just put it out there, it’s been a year,” Colbourne said.

“Congratulations, I’m sure you’ll do very well,” she said to Edwards.

Historically, the city has selected the same member for consecutive years as vice mayor. Former Commissioner Alexandra Davis held the position in 2023 and 2024.
