Shred-a-thon returns to Miramar with recycling, bulb exchange. How to participate
Miramar is making it easier to dispose of hard-to-get-rid-of household trash.
Whether it’s mountains of old mail, hazardous chemicals or outdated lightbulbs, Miramar residents can trash them safely from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex, where Commissioner Yvette Colbourne is hosting the Shred-a-thon with lightbulb exchange.
The city encourages residents to bring sensitive documents they want shredded.
The free event is happening three times this year, and this session — the second of 2026 — is part of National Public Works Week.
The Florida chapter of the American Public Works Association and local governments are highlighting the unseen efforts of public works employees, such as helping residents dispose of hazardous materials.
The next Shred-a-thon is scheduled to take place on Sept. 19.
Here’s what you can bring to the event:
- Papers for shredding and recycling
- Up to five old non-LED lightbulbs to be exchanged for energy-efficient LED bulbs
- Household chemicals
- Paint
- Electronics (TVs, etc.)
The event will stay open as long as truck capacity has not been reached and weather permits.
The city asks that you bring an ID to prove Miramar residency and to stay in your car during the process.
The Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex is located at 6700 Miramar Parkway.
