Port Everglades job fair to bring dozens of employers to Broward. Here are details
Hundreds of job seekers packed a recent job fair in Miramar, highlighting the growing demand for employment opportunities across South Florida.
Now, Broward County officials are hoping to build on that momentum with another large hiring event focused on careers tied to one of the region’s biggest economic engines — Port Everglades.
The Port Everglades Career Fair & Expo is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at the Broward County Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
Nearly 40 companies and organizations are expected to recruit workers for jobs in maritime transportation, construction, hospitality, aviation, government and security.
Other participating organizations include the Broward Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard recruiting office, Omni Hotels & Resorts, MOSS Construction, Seaboard Marine and CareerSource Broward.
The event and parking at the convention center are free.
“Port Everglades is a major economic engine for Broward County that generates jobs in the community and among the maritime companies that conduct business here and call our port home,” Broward County Commissioner Alexandra Davis said in a statement announcing the event.
The event comes just days after hundreds of people turned out at a Miramar job fair on May 20. Florida’s unemployment rate is 4.7 percent, slightly higher than the national average.
Port Everglades officials say more than 12,000 people work directly for companies providing services at the port.
