Proposed funding protects programs for thousands of Miramar seniors. What to know
Thousands of Miramar seniors will continue receiving daily meals, transportation assistance and adult day care services under a proposed nearly half a million grant agreement set for approval by the City Commission on Wednesday, June 3.
The funding, provided through the Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County’s Local Services Program, would support programs that help older residents remain active, independent and connected to their community.
The grant, worth $426,550, would fund adult day care services, daily breakfasts, grab-and-go weekend meals and extended transportation services from July 1 through next June.
Under the proposed resolution, commissioners would authorize the city to accept the funding and execute the agreement.
Miramar’s programs serve a significant number of seniors. During the current grant cycle, seniors received more than 43,000 daily breakfasts and more than 4,800 evening and weekend transportation trips.
In their presentation to commisioners, city officials said continuing the services is in the best interest of residents who depend on the programs for nutrition, social engagement and access to transportation.
