Miramar has a free opportunity for young students who show promise in business.

The Miramar Business Academy (MBA) is normally open to adults as a 12-session series, and now the city is introducing a Jr. MBA program for elementary and middle school students.

To apply, the interest form must be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian.

The junior program introduces entrepreneurship to students and gives them hands-on experience in launching a small business as an extension of the MBA program.

The capstones of the program are the pitch competition and the youth business marketplace.

The marketplace is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12.

Though the students won’t be competing for grants in the pitch competition, they will be presenting their business plan.

“This is a comprehensive entrepreneurship training program designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners learn or refine their business model; identify the components of an effective business plan; and access the tools and resources for launching or scaling their businesses,” the Miramar Economic Development and Housing Department wrote of the MBA program.

The youth version is much shorter, with sessions on Aug. 8 and Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Center.

The registration deadline is July 9.
