Miramar police confirmed Tuesday that one of its sergeants has been placed on administrative leave after he was arrested on domestic battery and criminal mischief charges following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend at her Miami-Dade home.

Police said Sgt. Devarious Holloway surrendered to authorities on Monday, June 22, following the incident that investigators say occurred on Friday.

“The Department ... has initiated a thorough administrative review in accordance with established departmental procedures,” the department said in a June 23 statement. “Sergeant Holloway has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of that review.”

According to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Holloway’s girlfriend told deputies he contacted her shortly before 7 p.m. Friday and asked her to come outside her home.

Investigators said Holloway asked the woman whether their relationship was over before entering her home and confronting her. The woman told deputies Holloway threw her cellphone, grabbed her by the shoulders, pushed her onto a couch and punched her in the mouth when she tried to stand up.

The report says Holloway then kicked the woman, prompting her to run to a bedroom and lock the door.

Investigators said Holloway kicked the bedroom door, damaging the door frame, and continued questioning her about the status of their relationship.

After briefly leaving the residence, Holloway returned and resumed arguing with the woman before striking her in the chest, causing redness and breaking a necklace she was wearing, according to investigators.

The woman reported the incident to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.

Holloway was charged with battery and criminal mischief and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was held on a $4,000 bond.
