More than just a gym: Body By Chosen building community through fitness in Miramar
Body By Chosen may be new to Miramar, but it is rooted in the community.
One gym has made a difference in not just the lives of customers, but the surrounding area, too.
Located at 2600 S. University Dr. #105, Body By Chosen offers boxing, strength training, private training and conditioning classes.
The team at the Miramar location is led by Jason Crewe, a partner of Body By Chosen founder and CEO Dwayne Delves.
Community day is every Saturday, and this Saturday is no different. After over a year in business, Body By Chosen will have its ribbon cutting ceremony and free community workout from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.
“I like the energy here. I like how it’s a little bit slower pace. I like the island vibes,” Crewe told the Miramar News. “I feel very welcomed, very embraced. The community style that’s here is exactly what our brand represents.”
The first Body By Chosen opened in 2014 in Toronto, serving a wide range of ages, fitness levels and demographics.
It has given back to the community by helping out at schools and summer camps.
“I actually go out to summer camps in Broward County and talk about fitness and nutrition,” Crewe said.
Body By Chosen has also worked with Miramar High School and Pembroke Pines Elementary, including autistic students.
“I know there’s not a lot of opportunities or options for kids with autism for gyms … with autism there’s a big spectrum from low to high. We welcome all the kids,” Crewe said.
You can find boxing classes for beginners, upper- and lower-body classes, and full-body classes. Crewe adjusts instruction to include customers with limitations.
“You’ll see people that have never trained a day in their life, to professional athletes, and everything in between. Number one, everyone is welcome,” Crewe said.
There are no contracts, no signup fees and no penalties for unused credits. Body By Chosen is open on most holidays, only closing on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Most importantly, Crewe never encourages his clients to go beyond their ability or hurt themselves in the name of fitness.
“That gives us great word-of-mouth,” Crewe said. “They can start when they want, they can cancel when they want. There’s no hard feelings.”
