A car burst into flames Monday in Miramar, and while investigators have not determined what caused the fire, one witness says lightning struck moments before the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Fire crews responding to a 911 call arrived around 1 p.m. on July 6 to the 6600 block of Dahlia Drive, the department told the Miramar News.

When crews arrived, an unoccupied car was engulfed in flames. Crews then determined there was a natural gas line leaking near the vehicle.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported. The department said no nearby structures were damaged.

One passerby, claiming to be the 911 caller, took video of the fire.

The Facebook post from Flashback South Florida reads, “Live in Historic Miramar, car fire after being struck by lightning, this car is on top of a natural gas line and the whole thing could (have) exploded!!”

The Miramar Fire Department said it couldn’t confirm the cause of the fire until the fire marshal finishes investigating.
