The Miramar Cultural Center is bringing a premier Jamaican singing group to the city for two nights of choral theater.

The music choices range from jazz, folk and gospel to American Negro spirituals and original Caribbean compositions.

The University Singers will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26.

“The University Singers will bring their signature blend of inspirational music, Caribbean classics, gospel favorites, folk traditions and contemporary selections to the stage of the Miramar Cultural Center,” the center’s promotional video said.

The concert will be hosted by Vice Mayor Carson “Eddy” Edwards and presented by Consul General Oliver Mair and the Jamaica Hi5 Foundation.

“This special cultural exchange will unite audiences through the universal language of music while celebrating the rich heritage of the Caribbean,” the video says.

Founded in 1958, The University Singers travel throughout Jamaica and internationally, performing choral theater with dance and costumes.

Classics such as “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” bring out the gospel tradition, while their energetic dancehall curtain call showcases more modern sounds.

Tickets start at $45 on the Miramar Cultural Center website.
