This week in Miramar: Here’s your guide to what’s happening around town

Miramar has a variety of events scheduled for this week, ranging from official city business to social gatherings.

See what’s available, including a Caribbean film screening or a free game of chess.

Here’s some of what’s happening Oct. 13-16.

Monday

“Panazz: The Story” film screening – 6:30 p.m.

This film screening is also a concert featuring the Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Pan Orchestra. “Panazz: The Story” is a documentary about the Trinidadian jazz Steelpan group Panazz and follows their journey beginning in the 1990s to their international recognition today.

“Through heartfelt interviews, archival footage, and stunning visuals of Trinidad & Tobago, interwoven with Panazz’s unique music, the film showcases how this small Caribbean ensemble challenged societal norms and transformed global perceptions of Steelpan music,” the Eventbrite page reads.

The film will be followed by the Massy Trinidad All Stars performance and the $20 entrance fee goes toward spreading the knowledge of the Steelpan and the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.

Tuesday

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Dance along with Gabriela Jurado at this weekly Zumba class. The group meets outside in Miramar Town Center Plaza for free dance instruction.

Hocus Pocus trivia — 7 p.m.

The Halloween celebrations continue with World of Beer’s “Hocus Pocus” trivia night. Fans of the movie will be tested on their knowledge of the Sanderson sisters.

Wednesday

City of Miramar commission meeting – 7 p.m.

The city commission has its regular commission meeting in the commission chambers. Residents can view the meeting online at Granicus Streaming or on Comcast channel 78 and AT&T channel 99. Issues on the agenda include electric vehicle charging stations, the Miramar Branch Library and the Miramar complete streets project.

Miramar Chess Club — 7-10 p.m.

The Miramar Chess Club invites the public to bring their chess sets to Starbucks for Wednesday night chess. All levels are welcome to this night of games and strategy at the Starbucks on Red Road.

Free Pain Workshop — 6-7 p.m.

Walker Chiropractic and Wellness Center is offering a free pain relief workshop, where attendees can learn strategies for reducing pain, see demonstrations from the center’s doctors, win giveaways and enjoy refreshments. Call (954) 639-7257 to reserve a spot.

Thursday

Free Zumba Thursdays — 6:30-7:30 p.m.

For those looking for an indoor Zumba class, join Mayor Wayne M. Messam and dance instructor Gabriela Jurado for a class at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Join them every Thursday for free.

Sip & Taste gathering at Memorial Hospital Miramar — 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Memorial Hospital Miramar is hosting the 20th Sip & Taste networking gathering, with a tasting menu and wine selection. Join the Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce at the medical office building on 172nd Avenue. Entry is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
