Jamaica’s leading youth dance company will make its way to the Miramar Cultural Center on Friday, Oct. 17, to perform “Vibrations,” a journey through Caribbean culture and dance techniques.

The Campion Dance Society Ensemble was formed in 2010 by artistic director Dwright Wright out of Campion College in Kingston, Jamaica. They have performed in Fort Lauderdale, New York, Boston and Denmark, and play an often sold-out show in Kingston called Season of Dance, according to the Miramar Cultural Center.

Half of its senior ensemble is also performing with the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica and other professional companies in Jamaica.

“With a reputation for strong technique, creative innovation, and powerful storytelling through movement, CDS has redefined youth dance in Jamaica,” the event page reads.

“As the curtain rises, you’ll feel the raw, kinetic energy of some of Jamaica’s most talented dancers. ‘Vibrations’ pushes artistic boundaries, incorporating immersive production elements that transport you into richly designed worlds, crafted to move your spirit.”

This is a family-friendly cultural celebration that is meant to represent the homeland’s many aspects and showcase the dancers’ “pride and professionalism.”

Show highlights include a modern contemporary piece called Misogyny, a tribute to athletes called In Our Lane, a dancehall drama called Jamaica Love, and other Afrocentric and Caribbean folk dances.

The performance is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at miramarculturalcenter.org.
