The annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival at Miramar Regional Park is scheduled for early November, and the official Taste of Jerk kickoff party is happening Saturday, Oct. 18, according to a news release.

This free community event will take place from 2-7 p.m. and feature a meet and greet with reggae star Christopher Martin, who became a popular reggae and dancehall artist in 2007 and is known for his hits “Cheater’s Prayer” and “Big Deal.”

The kickoff event will take place at VP Records at 6022 SW 21st St., where reggae music like Martin’s is distributed across the U.S. The Nov. 9 Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival will be presented by VP Records as well as Publix.

Taste of Jerk attendees will experience a street fair-like atmosphere with food vendors, free food samples, DJ sets, and giveaways of Grace products and tickets to the festival.

“This exciting pre-festival event will connect the community, the cuisine, families and fans of good food and good music. Taste of Jerk is the tantalizing ‘appetizer’ leading up to the ‘main course’ — the Grace Jamaican Jerk festival in November,” the release says.

Martin will also perform at the festival, along with The Original Wailers, Mr. Vegas and Code Red Band, with more to be announced.

General admission tickets for the festival start at $45 on caribtix.com.
