Veterans Day ceremony, pivotal school meeting. Your guide to Miramar weekday events
Miramar gets the week started by observing Veterans Day on Tuesday, then moves to recurring gatherings that are free to the public and a community meeting about the Broward County Public Schools restructuring process.
Here’s what scheduled this week through Thursday, Nov. 13:
Tuesday
Miramar Veterans Day ceremony — 11 a.m.
The city is honoring local veterans at the Veterans Memorial Park in Historic Miramar. There will be guest speakers, refreshments and a presentation of colors. This year, the park will feature banners with the faces of local veterans and how they’ve served. City offices will be closed Tuesday for Veterans Day.
Wednesday
Wednesday night chess — 7 to 10 p.m.
The Miramar Chess Club meets every Wednesday to play each other and practice strategies. Join them at the Starbucks on Red Road and bring a chess set to participate, no matter what level of experience you have.
OCAT Community Health Education Series — 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The One City at a Time Community Health Education Series from the Memorial Healthcare System takes place at the Multi-Service Complex, and this final installment is titled “Stress Management: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World.” Dinner will be provided for this hybrid in-person and virtual event.
Thursday
BCPS Redefining Our Schools meeting — 6 p.m.
Broward County Public Schools is considering restructuring several schools, including Glades Middle School, Miramar High School and Panther Elementary, resulting in possible closures. Officials want to hear from the public and will host the final community meeting with Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn on this matter at Miramar High School. Final decisions will be announced in January.
ACE-Autism meeting — 10 a.m.
Broward County Public Schools ESE Supervisor Brandon Dietrick is holding a meeting at Glades Middle School for families interested in a potential autism and disabilities school in Broward. The Autism Committee of the ESE Advisory Council is exploring this as part of the Redefining our Schools process.
Fully Promoted ribbon cutting — 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
A new small business is coming to Miramar. Fully Promoted is a branded apparel and promotional products company that will open at 3150 SW 145th Ave. Join the Miramar Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce for this ceremony to welcome them to the neighborhood.
Zumba at Sunset Lakes Community Center — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Free Zumba classes are available all month in Miramar. With instructor Gabriela Jurado and Mayor Wayne M. Messam, you can dance indoors at the Sunset Lakes Community Center every Thursday.
