Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Dec. 9 to 11:

Tuesday

BCPS Showcase — 5 to 8 p.m.

While this event doesn’t take place in Miramar, all the public Miramar elementary, middle and high schools will be in attendance. Broward County Public Schools is hosting a free showcase at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise to help parents and students pick the school that’s right for them. Ask schools administrators questions in person and meet staff from Miramar’s Silver Shores STEAM Academy, a new K-8 magnet school, attending the showcase for the first time.

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Make your way to City Hall Plaza to join a community that enjoys dancing and fitness. Every week, dance teacher Gabriela Jurado instructs this outdoor class. Attendees don’t have to worry about their dancing skills, as all levels are welcome. Dancers are encouraged to bring water.

Planning and Zoning Board Meeting — 6:30 p.m.

On the second Tuesday of every month, the Building, Planning and Zoning Department hosts this board meeting to engage community members in discussion on land use in the city. The board reports its suggestions to the City Commission. Join this meeting in the commission chambers or participate online at miramarevents.webex.com.

Wednesday

Wednesday Night Chess — 7 to 10 p.m.

Ever Wednesday night, the Miramar Chess Club turns the Starbucks at Miramar Parkway and Red Road from a coffee shop into a game room. This club welcomes players of all levels, whether you’ve never joined or have experience. They ask that you bring your own chess set to meetings.

Meet the Doctors Holiday Toy Drive — 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Walker Chiropractic and Wellness Center is opening its doors to the community for their Meet the Doctors event. Hosted by Dr. Venessa Walker, the group of doctors will be available for questions. This is also a holiday toy drive, where visitors are asked to bring an unwrapped toy or a $25 donation. All proceeds will go to the Owen Walker Jr. Foundation, Jamaican Women of Florida and Fairway Elementary.

Thursday

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

An indoor Zumba class happens at the Sunset Lakes Community Center every Thursday, hosted by the city mayor. Instructor Gabriela Jurado will teach the group dance moves designed to make you break a sweat. This free class is made for dancers of all levels.
