What’s happening this week in Miramar: Meet Santa, Hanukkah celebration, trivia

Get deep into the celebrations with Miramar as the holiday season continues. Events happening around the city include a big Hanukkah celebration, an opportunity to meet Santa, free classes and a community meeting open to the public.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Dec. 16-18:

Tuesday

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Every Tuesday at in City Hall Plaza, there is music and dancing open to the public for free. Take a Zumba class with instructor Gabriela Jurado outdoors, and get moving with others no matter your dancing skill. Zumba combines Latin-inspired dance moves with exercise, providing a fun way to stay fit.

Cookies with Santa — 5 to 8 p.m.

A special visitor is coming to Texas Roadhouse. Take the kids to get a picture with Santa at this local restaurant. Plus, enjoy cookies and hot cocoa, arts and crafts with Texas Roadhouse’s Andy Armadillo and games just for kids. Visitors must dine in or order to go to participate.

Holiday Movie Trivia & Ugly Sweater Night — 7 p.m.

Want to earn a prize for your trivia knowledge? Head to World of Beer in Miramar to answer fun questions about holiday movies, earn prizes and enjoy the drinks and food.

Wednesday

Joyful Chanukah Celebration — 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

It’s time for the giant menorah lighting. The City of Miramar is hosting a Chanukah celebration with Chabad of Pembroke Pines at Town Center. Aside from the traditional menorah lighting, there will be popcorn, snow cones, juggling, face painting and dreidel giveaways.

Wednesday Night Chess — 7 to 10 p.m.

All chess enthusiasts are welcome to Wednesday Night Chess with the Miramar Chess Club. This club meets every Wednesday at the Starbucks at Miramar Parkway and Red Road, and players of all skill levels are invited. They ask that you bring your own chess set and come ready to strategize.

Thursday

Blasting Community Advisory Board Meeting — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

If you’ve heard blasting noises or felt tremors during the day, this meeting might be for you. Ever third Thursday of the month, Miramar hosts a Blasting Community Advisory Board meeting. Residents who are not on the board are welcome to attend to get the latest information on blasting. You can also apply to serve on an advisory board, and notify the state of blasting-related complaints at mineactivityclearinghouse.myfloridacfo.gov.

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The city meets for Zumba for a second time this week, but indoors at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or just like fitness, join this lively class taught by Gabriela Jurado.
