This week in Miramar: art exhibit, new community run, kids’ storytime and more
If you’re looking for activities to make your weekday more exciting and active, check out some events happening this week in Miramar.
Don’t forget Miramar’s food and wine festival is coming up. A Sip of Wine ... A Taste of Heaven is popping up March 14 at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater.
From beloved mom-and-pop eateries to well-known local favorites and national chains, dozens of restaurants and dessert vendors will offer samples of their signature dishes. Awards for best in show and people’s choice will be handed out.
Without further ado, here’s a list of what’s going on in your city from Monday, March 9, through Thursday, March 12.
Monday
Writer’s Club — 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Join the Writer’s Club at the Miramar Branch Library for one of its twice-monthly meetings to read and discuss writing. The club meets the first and third Monday every month in the library’s conference room.
Mayor Wayne M. Messam x Miramar Run Club — 6:45 p.m.
Miramar Mayor Wayne M. Messam is partnering with the Miramar Run Club for a new, free community run called Set the Pace every Monday evening. This Monday will the second week of the community run, which starts at City Hall at 7 p.m. after a meet-up time of 6:45 p.m. The club will have pacers, but it’s intended to be an easy 30-minute run. You can also check out the Miramar Run Club’s other events throughout the week.
Tuesday
Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime — 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Kids ages 2-5 can enjoy storytime and songs at the Miramar Branch Library.
Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Stop by weekly Zumba, hosted by Gaby Zumba Fit, every Tuesday at Miramar Town Center from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free for Miramar residents.
Wednesday
‘Balancing the Scales’ Art Exhibit
A new art exhibit is debuting at the Miramar Cultural Center’s Ansin Family Art Gallery. “Balacing the Scales” hopes to recognize women’s achievements during Women’s History Month with works from female artists. The exhibit runs through April 6. The gallery is open Monday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Thursday
Zumba — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Gabriela Jurado will lead a Zumba class with dance moves that help you get fit, this time at at the Sunset Lakes Community Center. Don’t forget to bring water.
Line Dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.
At the start of the year, Miramar introduced a new weekly line dancing class at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center. Join instructor Jammin Jamei to learn line dance routines to popular songs.
