This week in Miramar: Swan Lake, puzzle swap, run club and a business social

Close out March with several opportunities to connect with community and take advantage of free services the city has to offer. A few events at the library aim to bring locals together, while a Swan Lake show comes to the Miramar Cultural Center.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Monday, March 23 to Thursday, March 26:

Monday

Set the Pace — 6:45 p.m.

The Miramar Run Club meets at City Hall on Mondays for a run made for all levels of athletes. The run starts at 7 p.m. and lasts 30 minutes. While this group used to meet at Pembroke Gardens, they recently moved the gathering.

Tuesday

Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime — 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Help little ones get ready for preschool with this weekly reading event at the Miramar Branch Library. To help children enhance their social skills, Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime includes playtime and games, all for free.

Salsa Classes (Tuesday and Thursday) — 7 to 10 p.m.

Salsa Kings has a studio on Red Road and offers the first class for free. The group class with an instructor is meant for all levels of dancers, offering a welcoming environment.

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Zumba is happening outdoors at the City Hall plaza with instructor Gabriela Jurado. Every Tuesday, bring water and get dancing with this exercise group that welcomes all.

Wednesday

Historic Miramar Advisory Board Meeting — 6:30 p.m.

Historic Miramar refers to most of the area east of I-75 that is reviewed by this advisory board. This team advises the City Commission on how to care for the area and its issues, such as flooding and new developments. Join the meeting at the Alexandra P. Davis Multi Service Complex to contribute thoughts about Historic Miramar and see what concerns are being prioritized.

Wine Down Wednesday: Miramar Business Social — 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Sushi Sake hosts networking events for local business owners and entrepreneurs. This mixer costs $7 to attend, and the restaurant will facilitate conversations meant to drive businesses forward. The event will also feature a presentation from sponsor LegalShield.

Grand Kyiv Ballet “Swan Lake” — 7 p.m.

Bask in the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and learn the story of Odette and Odile through “Swan Lake” at the Miramar Cultural Center. The Grand Kyiv Ballet will present this world famous work for one night, and tickets start at $36.

Miramar Chess Club — 7 to 10 p.m.

The Miramar Chess Club invites the public to join in the fun at the Starbucks on Red Road. Bring your own chess set and play your best strategies. All levels are welcome.

Thursday

Jigsaw Puzzle Party and Exchange — 12 to 2 p.m.

This puzzle exchange welcomes puzzlers age 12 and up. The Miramar Branch Library welcomes you to take a puzzle and leave a puzzle at this event, exchanging puzzles of similar sizes. The puzzles must be gently used with no missing pieces.

Free Zumba Thursdays — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Looking for a free Zumba class indoors? This one is held at the Sunset Lakes Community Center with instructor Gabriela Jurado. Follow along with the moves and make sure to bring water for this all-levels class.

Line Dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.

The free line dancing class is led by Jammin Jamei, who knows all the moves to line dancing favorites. Learn the steps to popular songs at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment center for free.
