It’s a busy week here in Miramar, with a city commission meeting and two trivia nights happening around the city.

You can also get with the run club for another Monday set-the-pace jog or perform at an open mic night on Thursday.

Check out some of the events happening in Miramar from Monday, April 20, through Thursday, April 23:

Monday

Environmental Exhibit: The Art Around Me — 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.

An environmental exhibit opens Monday at the Miramar Cultural Center Ansin Family Art Gallery. Check out photographs in “The Art Around Me,” which highlights the beauty of nature that often goes unnoticed. The exhibit runs through May 18.

Set the PACE at Miramar Town Center — 6:45 p.m.

Looking to get into running? Start from the beginning with the Miramar Run Club. The club offers a set-the-pace run meant for all levels. This is 30 minutes of easy running or walking that begins at 7 p.m. after the 6:45 p.m. meetup at City Hall.

Tuesday

Zumba at Town Center Plaza — 6:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Town Center Plaza is packed with people following the moves to a free Zumba class. Follow Gabriela Jurado, the instructor, and make sure to bring water if you plan on dancing.

Mat Pilates — 6:30 p.m.

Haus of Align is bringing an all-levels mat pilates class to the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center. Pilates movements focus on alignment, control and breathing. The moves will have modifications for different levels of experience, and the class is scheduled for 45 minutes. Tickets are $24 and available on Eventbrite.

Weekly Live Trivia Nights at World of Beer — 7 p.m.

Trivia night is on at World of Beer on Red Road. Bring your team to compete in a fun game every Tuesday. If you sign up for the National Trivia League, you can compete all year for prizes.

Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime — 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring your child to make new friends and prep for preschool at Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime. The Miramar Branch Library hosts the group. The activities, games and reading are meant to develop a child’s social and learning skills.

Wednesday

Walk-Up Food Distribution — Noon to 2 p.m.

This free food distribution at the Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex will be open while supplies last. No registration is required, but the city encourages you to bring a cart and an umbrella.

Diaper Pantry — 6 to 7 p.m.

This is a free diaper giveaway from the Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank. Make sure to register in advance and show your QR code at the Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex. Adult and baby diapers are available.

City Commission Meeting — 7 p.m.

It’s the third Wednesday of the month, which means another city commission meeting. At these meetings, commissioners vote on resolutions, listen to the public about their concerns and introduce legislation. Attend in person at City Hall to have your voice heard, or stream online.

Wednesday Night Chess — 7 to 10 p.m.

Meet new friends, play games and learn something new all in one night. The Miramar Chess Club welcomes newcomers to chess as well as longtime players. Bring your own chess set to the Starbucks on Red Road for a night of strategy.

Family Trivia — 5 to 6 p.m.

In honor of National Library Week, the Miramar Branch Library invites families to participate in free library trivia for cash prizes. It’s all about friendly competition and teamwork, plus some light snacks will be provided.

Thursday

Business Grants, Supports and Services Workshop — 5 to 8:30 p.m.

This event combines networking and a resource fair in one. If you’re looking to start a business, meet with local agencies, find out what resources are available, learn about grants or network with like-minded individuals, stop by City Hall to learn more.

Line Dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.

Jammin Jamei, the instructor from the Sneakers on the Ground series, is back with more dances. Learn line dances to the latest songs and work up a sweat in this two-hour class at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.

Zumba at Sunset Lakes Community Center — 6:30 p.m.

Like Zumba but prefer it indoors? This class takes place in the Sunset Lakes Community Center with instructor Gabriela Jurado. Every Thursday, join the group by following the dance moves, getting in some cardio. Make sure to fill out the release form on the city’s website first.

Pilates in the Park — 6:30 p.m.

Haus of Align brings its Pilates class to Miramar Regional Park. Focus your moves, control your breath and get in alignment with the instructor to learn how pilates works as an exercise. This intentional way of moving is meant for all levels with modifications. Classes cost $24.

Open Mic Night — 8 to 11:30 p.m.

Miramar Seafood & Steak Restaurant is hosting an open mic night welcoming singers, musicians, dancers, actors and other performers. Enjoy live music, food and drinks or sign up to perform.

Jigsaw Puzzle Party and Exchange — Noon to 2 p.m.

If you have puzzles you’ve already finished (with all the pieces in the box), this puzzle swap is for you. Take one and leave one at the Miramar Branch Library. This event welcomes puzzle enthusasts ages 12 and up. Exchanges will be of similar size and the library welcomes you to complete your puzzle while you’re there.
