A network of alumni are coming together in Miramar, hundreds of miles away from where they went to school together.

The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida, founded by Xavier Murphy and a handful of other alumni, is celebrating its 19th annual True Blue weekend, where former Jamaica College students and their families get together to celebrate, dance and play soccer.

Jamaica College, a secondary school, is located in Kingston, Jamaica.

“This landmark event continues its tradition of fostering the alumni community spirit, celebrating Jamaican heritage and showcasing competitive sportsmanship in the heart of Miramar,” according to a news release.

The weekend kicks off Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m. with the Blue Magic party at the Sunset Lakes Community Center with DJ Radcliffe and DJ Matt providing the music. Tickets are currently $35 but will bump up to $45 at the door.

The following event is True Blue Soccerfest on May 2 at 2 p.m. JCOBAFL invited other prominent Jamaican high school alumni associations to compete in matches at Vizcaya Park.

“Reaching our 19th year is a milestone that reflects the enduring strength and unity of our community,” said Ian Bryan, president of JCOBAFL, in a news release. “True Blue Weekend has evolved into a cornerstone event for South Florida, offering a unique space where the bonds of friendship and school pride are renewed.”

Other activities include an All-Star Old School Boys game and an alumni penalty kick-off.

At halftime, JCOBAFL will honor two Jamaican “schoolboy football icons” for their influence on Jamaican high school soccer, according to a news release.

The previos night’s DJs will return to provide the music at the games.

JCOBAFL is a non-profit organization that supports Jamaica College and its alumni in Florida. Its community provides networking opportunities and educational initiatives.
