Several big events are happening this weekend in Miramar.

It’s Haitian Flag Day weekend and the party starts Friday. Then, on Sunday, rapper Plies will take the stage at Miramar Regional Park.

Plus, “Black Girl Speaks” is having its 20th anniversary performance at the Miramar Cultural Center.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Friday, May 15, through Sunday, May 17:

Friday

Bizou Miami — Friday and Saturday

Bizou Miami is a Haitian Flag Day weekend party featuring five DJs playing the best of Konpa, Zouk and more. This is a 21-and-up party hosted at Jamael’s Restaurant, with tickets starting at $30 and section packages available.

Low-Impact Aerobics — 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Low-impact aerobics is designed for all fitness levels and features moves that put less pressure on the joints. If you’re looking for a fitness class, this is an engaging workout in a supportive environment. Join at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.

Friday Follow @ The Rooftop With V — 7 to 8 p.m.

Join Threetwo Ave at one of its yoga classes this weekend. Friday is a 60-minute advanced class with minimal instruction, but still accessible for all levels. Meet at the rooftop of the Epic Residences garage for the free class, and bring your own mat.

Black Girl Speaks: 20th Anniversary Performance — 7 to 9 p.m.

Talitha Anyabwelé’s “Black Girl Speaks” is celebrating 20 years of telling the stories of Black women and girls. The show is a series of comedic and dramatic monologues, music and spoken word. This show is recommended for men and women ages 15 and up. Tickets start at $35.

Live Band Friday — 8 p.m.

See the Just In Time Band at Miramar Seafood and Steak. The restaurant promises good music, good food and good vibes every Friday.

Saturday

Shred-a-thon — 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Shred-a-thon is about more than just paper. It’s also a light bulb exchange and a good place to dispose of chemical trash and old electronics. The city says residents (with ID proof) can bring sensitive papers to be shredded and recycled, old paint to throw out and tech such as TVs. Drive up to the Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex and stay in your car while everything gets disposed of. Bring old non-LED light bulbs to exchange for more energy efficient ones.

Free Yoga Saturdays hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 10 to 11 a.m.

For this free yoga class, all you need is your own mat. The instructor will do the rest, leading a class of all levels at the Miramar Cultural Center botanical garden. Make sure to fill out the city’s release form before attending.

Free Citizenship Drive — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Get your citizenship for free with a fee waiver through the Florida Immigrant Coalition at Miramar’s free citizenship drive. At the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center, the city will take appointments with people who register in advance and have their documents ready. Included in the list of documents on FLIC’s website are those that can prove you receive government assistance and are eligible for a fee waiver.

Saturday Flow @ The Rooftop With V — 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Join Threetwo Ave for another weekend yoga class. Held on the rooftop of the Epic Residences garage, this one is meant for all levels. Whether you’re new or experienced, bring a mat and water.

Chess Club — Noon to 2 p.m.

Novice and experienced players are welcome to the Miramar Chess Club meetup at the Miramar Branch Library. Practice your chess skills in casual matches against other players.

Haitian Flag Day Family Fest — 4 to 8 p.m.

Head to Shirley Branca Park to celebrate Haitian Flag Day. Live, traditional performances are planned, plus an MC and a DJ to take the crowd into the night. Zenglen Band will perform, and restaurants will compete in the battle to see who has the best Haitian patty in Miramar.

Sunday

Plies’ “40 & Up With A Good Job” All White Day Party — 2 to 7 p.m.

Dress in your best all white outfit and you could win $200 at this Plies concert. The daytime party features a performance from the Florida native rapper, sold out sections and tables, and a club atmosphere at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater. Tickets start at $46 on Ticketmaster.
