A roach, spills, loose hair. Miramar’s less-than-stellar restaurant inspections
Flies, loose hair and a roach on the wall by a tortilla station made appearances during health inspections of Miramar restaurants last week.
Though no restaurants were shut down, here are some eateries that racked up the most violations during inspections from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3.
Violations are broken down into basic, intermediate and high-priority categories.
Bubbakoo’s Burritos and a Cold Stone Creamery on Miramar Parkway were each docked for 11 violations during first inspections by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, records show.
But Bubbakoo’s, which was cited for having flies near the front line area and for storing hot food temperatures colder than deemed food safe, redeemed itself during a follow-up inspection the next day.
The Cold Stone was cited for basic and intermediate issues only, including employees not restraining their hair and washing an ice cream scooper in a handwash sink.
The restaurant with the next highest number of violations actually passed the evaluation with a “met inspection standards.” Shawarmaz Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill was cited for dirty hood filters, a broken food thermometer and soil and food stains on its cooler, records show.
Two high-priority violations were corrected on the spot, and the restaurant was deemed to be at sufficient standards to not warrant administrative action.
An inspector flagged a roach and flies at the Chipotle at 3231 SW 160 Ave., which was also cited for having loose trash and spills near the self-serve soda fountain. An inspector went back two days later and found no violations.
A second Miramar Cold Stone Creamery, this one at 2937 SW 160th Ave., also received a warning for six violations, none of which were high-priority.
Finally, the agency recommended an administrative complaint be issued to two Dunkin’ locations, one at 2600 S. University Dr. and the other 11612 City Hall Promenade.
They were cited for minor issues, but both were docked with high-priority violations for the lack of a vacuum breaker to prevent the backflow of dirty water, records show.
