Maggots, prostate medicine in the kitchen: Miramar’s June restaurant inspections
Miramar’s June restaurant inspections are in, and some restaurants performed well, while others were cited for hygiene and safety issues spanning from bugs to a dirty kitchen to missing soap.
No restaurants were shut down last month by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Several did very well, racking up only one or two violations.
The sit-down restaurant that performed the best during an unannounced inspection was Primo’s Pizza & Pasta in the Fountains of Miramar, racking up zero violations during a June inspection. Its previous inspection was in January.
D&G Events and Catering also passed with zero issues. Eateries that only brought in one violation include Duck Donuts, La Romana Fast Food and Caribbean food truck Dynamic Cuisines.
On the other hand, the restaurant that had the most violations last month was China House at 10942 Pembroke Road, accruing 16 infractions during a June 10 review.
The restaurant was cited for two high-priority violations: WD-40 sitting on top of the prep table and possible cross-contamination of raw animal products stored on top of each other.
The other issues were mostly basic, including no soap at one of the handwashing sinks, food debris on an area around a wok and utensils that were washed without being properly sanitized, records show.
Chopstickz Eatery at 6068 Miramar Parkway was next with 10 violations stemming from a June 18 visit.
The inspector noted a container of Tamsulosin medication, which is used to treat prostate conditions, was improperly stored on a shelf over the flip top in the kitchen.
Another possibly stomach-turning discovery from the report: “Live maggots inside open can of meat waste stored on bottom shelf of prep table by back door.”
The Chinese restaurant, which is listed as a non-seating establishment, also reportedly didn’t disclose a seating change that affects the fees and compliance rules it must maintain. Inspectors counted 16 seats in front of the takeout counter.
Chopstickz redeemed itself during a follow-up inspection the next day.
