Robotics competitions, demos and airlines: What’s in store at the Aviation Expo
Miramar Mayor Wayne M. Messam’s Aviation Expo 2025 is just around the corner, featuring a robotics demonstration, representatives from a major commercial airline and interactive experiences for attendees.
Over 2,500 students were expected to attend the expo, which is open to field trips on Friday, Dec. 5, and public access to the event opens on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors can register for free on Eventbrite.
This educational expo, in its eighth year, encourages students and locals to engage with the aviation industry and other STEM occupations.
Aviation Expo Program Director LaTéssa Dotson Hall shared with the Miramar News what demonstrations and experiences are on offer at the event. Here’s a look at what you can experience at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater.
Educational
Several schools will be present to give more information about their programs. Interested students can talk to representatives from George T. Baker Aviation Technical College, Wayman College of Aeronautics, XFlight Aviation Academy, Florida Memorial University Aviation & Safety, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
There will also be local organizations dedicated to the field of aviation. The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, Latino Professionals in Aerospace, the Broward County Aviation Department and the Civil Air Patrol Pines-Miramar Composite Squadron will all attend on Saturday. Representatives from American Airlines will also share their experience in the field.
Interactive
Attendees can pick from a number of interactive experiences to try. The iFLY Zone will feature a “bungee adventure,” according to the lineup. The heli pad area will have two helicopters, one from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and another from the U.S. Coast Guard. The High Speed Aviation Flying Club is donating two hour-long “discovery flights,” and over at the Richard P. Hall Eagles Foundation booth, kids can try a LEGO build challenge.
Another visitor will be the Broward College iSTEM Bus, which travels to different locations delivering “experiential learning IT activities and support,” according to the Broward College website.
Competition
On Friday, the field trip day, over two dozen teams will demonstrate their robotics projects on the VRC Robotics Scrimmage Fields. Those teams, made up of elementary, middle and high school Broward County Public Schools students, will then compete for the public on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
