Miramar is losing its Winn-Dixie grocery store on Sunday, Jan. 4, when the supermarket closes its doors for good.

On Dec. 10, the Winn-Dixie at 172nd Avenue and Miramar Parkway posted a “This store is closing soon” sign and put its remaining stock on clearance. A sign also was posted saying the Winn-Dixie liquor store would remain open.

Employees told the Miramar News that they would not be restocking the grocery store.

As the store prepared to shut down, the shelves quickly emptied.

It is widely suspected by customers and employees that the Winn-Dixie will become an Aldi this year, and Aldi representatives have told the Miramar News that they will open a store in Miramar in 2026.

However, no details have been confirmed by Aldi or Winn-Dixie managers. Winn-Dixie managers did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Jan. 2.

Customers will have to use the surrounding stores until there are more answers.

In 2024, The Florida Times-Union newspaper in Jacksonville compared the prices of the most popular grocery stores in the Southeast: Publix, Aldi and Winn-Dixie.

When purchasing the same 15 items from each store, the outlet found that Aldi was cheaper than Winn-Dixie by $14 and cheaper than Publix by $21. Winn-Dixie was cheaper than Publix by $7.

The closest Aldi to the closing Winn-Dixie is in Pembroke Pines, at 184th Avenue and Pines Boulevard. The Aldi in Miramar is located at Flamingo Road and Miramar Parkway.

The popular low-price supermarket Walmart has two nearby locations in Pembroke Pines and one in Miramar on University Drive.

This Winn-Dixie was the only location in Miramar, with the other closest locations in Miami Lakes and Miami Gardens.
