It’s official: Aldi will replace closed Winn-Dixie in Miramar. What might change?
Aldi is officially replacing the Miramar Winn-Dixie.
The only Winn-Dixie in Miramar, at 17101 Miramar Parkway, officially closed on Sunday, Jan. 4, with empty shelves after shoppers took part in closing sales.
It closed less than a month after the official announcement in early December.
In a Wednesday, Jan. 14, statement to the Miramar News, Aldi Regional Vice President Chris Hewitt said, “Our new store in Miramar will be located at 17101 Miramar Pkwy.”
Hewitt said he does not have any more information to share in regards to an opening date, waiting until they “know more on its grand opening timeline.”
This isn’t the first time a Winn-Dixie has been turned into an Aldi. After the low-price grocery chain acquired some Winn-Dixie stores in 2024, Florida locations started being listed for conversion.
Besides the Miramar store, there are 17 listed for conversion in the state for 2026, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
An Aldi conversion opened in Aventura in June, and though the change comes with benefits, the area also lost access to some products. It once offered full-service kosher deli and bakery departments as a Winn-Dixie.
Aldi sells pre-packaged meat and fish, and doesn’t have hot and cold deli counters or butchers. The store is also focused on selling its own brands, and the buildings are not known to be as large as Winn-Dixie stores.
Some Aldi markets ask that you place a quarter in the shopping cart to use it, and they encourage customers to use reusable bags.
Low prices remain the big draw.
In 2024, The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville compared the prices of the most popular grocery stores. When purchasing the same 15 items from each store, the outlet found that Aldi was cheaper than Winn-Dixie by $14 and cheaper than Publix by $21.
