Florida ranks near bottom for raising families. How does Miramar fit in?

A day at the beach is common for families in Florida, but the Sunshine State didn’t fare well in WalletHub’s rankings for the best states to raise children.

Florida fared poorly in WalletHub’s recent ranking of the best states for raising a family.

The Sunshine State ranked 40th, placing last for affordability and in the bottom for education and childcare.

But, Florida is large and diverse — so how do individual cities like Miramar match up?

WalletHub analyzed the best Florida cities for families in 2018, but hasn’t updated its findings since then.

Other groups have continued reporting, though.

U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Places to Live in Florida” list ranked Miramar 34th out of 81 cities it analyzed, edging out neighboring Pembroke Pines by a fraction of a point.

So, is Broward County’s fourth-largest city bringing the region up, down, or maintaining the status quo?

The Miramar News decided to find out.

How WalletHub’s scoring works

Though WalletHub does not provide precise score reports, readers can access states’ totals in each of the five categories and learn more about how points were calculated.

Check out our interactive breakdown of data collected via the U.S. Census:

While this data is less robust than the many points examined by WalletHub, it helps differentiate Miramar from the rest of the state — especially when it comes to housing affordability.
