One playground at Miramar Regional Park has reopened while work continues on another after both were closed in December because of safety concerns.

As of Wednesday, Feb. 25, it appears that there are no hazards or corroded areas on equipment in the park that has reopened.

In October, park staff found corroded, unsafe areas in both parks, according to documents obtained by the Miramar News.

Those reports continued through November, when parents began publicly complaining, sparking media attention.

The city closed the parks on Dec. 1.

The city had been making plans to refurbish the two playgrounds as part of capital improvement projects. Full replacement funding was scheduled for late 2026.

There is a sign at the front of Miramar Regional Park’s gates announcing the expected completion of playground replacement for December 2025, with a total cost of $684,796.

The playground that remains closed is partially being taken apart, with structure pieces on the ground and trash collected in some areas. There is a sign pointing to the open playground.
