A woman has died after she was shot inside a Miramar apartment early Friday morning, as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, police said.

Police have not released the woman’s identity. The case remains active, Miramar police spokeswoman Janice McIntosh told the Miramar News on April 24.

According to police, officers responded to a call around 2:11 a.m. reporting a possible robbery in an apartment at the Miramar Lakes complex, located at 10750 N. Preserve Way, near the corner of Hiatus Road and Pembroke Road.

When officers arrived, they found the fatally wounded woman inside the apartment. She was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Miramar, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities have not confirmed the individuals’ relationship to each other, but WSVN reported that the man who lives in the apartment told investigators he and the woman had been casually dating. He said he caught her attempting to rob him early Friday and then shot her, according to the outlet.

Detectives spent much of Friday questioning the man, who is said to be cooperating with the investigation. It remains unclear whether he will face any charges.
