Miramar police on Monday released the audio of a 911 call related to the fatal shooting of a woman allegedly caught trying to rob a man’s apartment.

The woman was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital after the 2 a.m. shooting Friday, April 24. She later died from her injuries. Her name has not been released by police.

The man, whose name also has not been released, told police he had been casually dating the woman when he caught her trying to rob his home at the Miramar Lakes apartment complex at 10750 N. Preserve Way.

Police said he told the dispatcher he shot the woman.

In the 911 call, the man pleads for police and paramedics to hurry and says he is “scared.” At one point, he wants to hang up and call his grandmother, but the dispatcher asks him to stay on the line.

When the dispatcher asks for details, he refuses to explain and says the incident was captured on video.

“My neighbor has a Ring camera. You’ll be able to see everything,” he tells the dispatcher.

No charges have been filed as of April 27, and detectives are working to determine whether any will be filed and whether Florida’s Stand Your Ground law applies.

“Detectives are still reviewing the circumstances and reviewing the laws concerning the incident,” said Janice McIntosh, a spokeswoman for Miramar Police. “As a result, no update on if, when or what (charges) the shooter (might face).”
