Miramar Commissioner Avril Cherasard is in the spotlight for the second year in a row for her leadership in the city.

MIA Media Group, which operates publications highlighting Florida’s Black community, honors influential leaders every year.

Cherasard is among a group of 50 of South Florida’s Most Powerful & Influential Business Leaders for 2026, announced April 27.

“When I took office, I made a promise to the residents of the City of Miramar: to lead with integrity, transparency and true accountability,” Cherasard said in a social media statement on Friday.

“This consecutive recognition is a testament that keeping those promises matters — not just within our city limits, but across the entire region,” she continued.

The commissioner was recently recognized as well by U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson for her work.

Alongside her colleagues on the commission, Cherasard has led recent events such as the Joy and Happiness Fest and the Haitian Flag Day Family Fest, and as a realtor, she’s moderated a panel with the Miami Board of Realtors.

As a commissioner, she responds to community concerns and fields tough conversations on safety and new developments during commission meetings.

One example of her recent impact is her Sneakers on the Ground series of line dancing events, which has turned into a regular class at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.

MIA Media Group CEO Dexter A. Bridgeman said, “The Legacy Most Powerful & Influential Business Leaders award represents more than professional success; it is a reflection of impact, leadership and the ability to create meaningful change in the community.”

It is also a historical record of Black people whose influence extends beyond their day job, he added.

“I am also incredibly grateful to those who nominated me; thank you for recognizing the hard work, believing in the vision and standing with me as we push Miramar forward,” Cherasard said.
